A two-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning in Vernon County ended up in a farm pasture, with one of the vehicles striking a dairy cow.
The crash happened at about 5 a.m. near Westby, at the intersection of Neprud, Tri-State and Three Chimney roads, the Sheriff’s Office said.
One of the drivers, Randy Bakkestuen, 60, of rural Westby, suffered serious injuries, while Bryan Hagen, 37, of La Crosse, refused medical treatment at the scene but said he might seek treatment.
The report said Hagen was driving south on Neprud Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign at Tri-State Road and struck the eastbound vehicle driven by Bakkestuen.
Bakkestuen’s vehicle spun around, left the highway and went through a fence, hitting a cow before coming to rest upright in the pasture.
Hagen’s vehicle also spun around, left the highway and traveled over a creek before coming to rest upright in the same pasture.
No citations or charges were noted in the report but the crash remains under investigation.
